Birthday Blues
Birthdays can be tough. And they can be even harder when things feel a bit broken.
Ever since opening Messy Nessy’s Cabinet, I’ve noticed it. A familiar pause: that brief flicker of hesitation after I ask a customer where they’re from, before they answer, almost apologetically, “America.”
As the nation marks its 250th anniversary this weekend, I want to raise a glass and say: keep the faith. To every curious American who has wandered through our Cabinet doors in Paris these past two years, you’ve quietly helped restore mine.
I still believe curiosity is the antidote to doom. So keep following it. Keep sharing it.
And if you get cornered at a July 4th BBQ this weekend by a feisty relative waving a bacon sandwich at you – find common ground with the story about Elvis Presley’s legendary midnight sandwich runs aboard his private jet. Debating democracy by the donuts? Pivot to the Forgotten Doughnut Heroines of Wartime. Designated chef getting too fired up over by the BBQ? Ask ‘em if they’ve heard about the restaurant that grills its food over a volcano.
Your 13 Things I Found on this Internet are marinated in feel-good American flavours this week too. And since the French-American story goes way back, you’ll find a 25% gift code on our Paris and New York Don’t be a Tourist guides this weekend. Just use the code TWOFIFTY at checkout.
Happy 250 America, with love and courage from your friends in Paris at Messy Nessy’s Cabinet.
Stay curious,
Nessy
