French Mantra of the Month

En Mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît.

Translation: “In May, do whatever the [heck] you want.”

May is definitely the laziest month of the French calendar (outside of summer holidays) when the entire country basically plays hookie thanks to a stack of cleverly clustered bank holidays. Ideal for getting up to no good.

[Here’s where I pull up with my time machine and tell you to “get in”.]

Let’s take a lifestyle cue from the first and naughtiest of the bohemian subcultures and meet the Bouzingos of the Belle Epoque.

For your moodboard: a closer look at the art of the May 1968 Paris Riots.

Weekend plans: venture with me down the Parisian rabbit hole into a WWII bunker to mark Europe’s May 8th Victory Day.

Last stop – les Années Folles, to the world’s first known fetish boutique in Paris.

Et voilà, a little mischief for May. Oh and a little peek at things to come for Messy Nessy’s Cabinet. And don’t forget your 13 weekly distractions.

Stay curious,
