Paris Is Flirting with Everyone Again

“When Spring comes to Paris the humblest mortal alive must feel that he dwells in paradise,” so said Henry Miller.

Paris is “trending,” I’m told. No really, a little birdie told me that marketing people were actually saying this at the book fairs this year. Isn’t Paris always trending?

And yet, from behind the counter of my little shop behind Notre-Dame, I find myself wondering whether something has shifted as the city welcomes its annual wave of Spring visitors again. Perhaps more first-timers? It does feel as though the city is being discovered all over again by people who had half-convinced themselves places like this no longer existed.

And mind you, I appreciate the reminder, that for all its clichés and overexposure, Paris still has the power to feel improbable. For me, it has that rare sensation of never quite reaching the end of what there is to look at. I can only imagine what it does for a first-timer in Spring.

Whether you’re a Paris rookie, a seasoned visitor, or you’re a Parisian like myself seeking to rediscover the city through fresh eyes, I’m always ready to help point the way, and the Messy Nessy Concierge is waiting to craft your bespoke itineraries and trip ideas, so get in touch!

In the meantime, let’s get in the mood for warmer weather with the lost floating pools of Paris, feast on rotisserie chickens and drink champagne in the forgotten treehouse bars of the Belle Epoque, and go Parisian island hopping in search of a lost 1930s nudist utopia

On another note, as we’re rounding up Women’s History Month, I wanted to pass on something we shared with the Paris Writers & Readers Club last week – A Parisienne’s Manifesto – I just thought you might like to print it out for yourself or a special someone who loves Paris. Maybe post it on a mood board.

And of course, tis the season to start Spring cleaning all that stuff we’ve accumulated over the winter months. For us collectors, saying goodbye is always the hardest part, but might I suggest loosening things up with an impromptu furniture / object / textiles reshuffle in each room of your home (a little inspiration?). Just remember, there’s a fine line between clutter and chaos. The good: visit the American Castle of a Renaissance Hoarder. And the bad: a Cautionary Tale of the Harlem Hoarders
